About Dinan
The most attractive part of Dinan is arguably its port, which is where you’ll arrive if you take a boat from Dinard or Saint-Malo (you can take a trip from here to both destinations if you wish). The quayside itself is lined with beautiful old stone houses, many of which now make up the many waterside restaurants and other shops. Why not take a slow walk along the meandering old towpath or cross the 15th-century stone bridge to Lanvallay where you can discover the life on the river at the Maison de la Rance centre. Wherever you are, you won’t miss the 131ft / 40m high viaduct (see pictures below) .
From the port you can make your way up the steep Rue du Petit-Fort - this was Dinan’s main point of access until the 18th century. This cobbled hill with its half-timbered houses appears in most of the postcards from the area - have a browse in the arts and crafts shops and you will see for yourself.
Dinan has been designated a Ville d’Art et d’Histoire (a Town of Art & History). The town is filled with artists, sculptors and creative glass blowers - just keep looking and you will find them !
